Smooth sailing at the office, rough waters at home
If you are successful outside the house then you undoubtedly possess the ability to apply those skills and be successful inside the house. When I refer to inside the house, I am now relating to your role as parent or spouse versus your role at your job.
Ask yourself, “how do I know if I’m doing it right?” “How can I be a better parent?” Well, if you are successful at work then you have the tools to be a good communicator. If you are generally well-liked and able to get things done through people then you are already a good parent. If you think about the techniques or skills that you use at work, these are the same skills to be used at home. Why would you leave them at the office threshold and not bring them home?
When was the last time you sat across from a customer and yelled at him in order to get them to buy whatever it is you were selling? When was the last time you went ahead with a project without having a meeting first to explain what it was you wanted? When was the last time you yelled at an employee because he did not get it right the first time? As an effective communicator we would imagine that your answers to these questions would be never.
If you are not as successful at home as you are at work, then ask yourself what are ways I can transfer my work skills to home so I can enhance my family dynamics in positive ways.
